New Year 2012

Please Kokua

Please be sure to submit your program evaluation at the end of the session.

It is critical that the County be informed by you today, regarding the support we receive from our Ohana; that you (and/or your children) have benefitted from our program; and that you would like to see us continue offering classes. The County has officially CANCELLED ALL Kihei Classes effective immediately.

Drownings have increased across the Country!

Many States have reported record number of drownings during 2011, with a recent survey revealing Americans' ability to swim remains distressingly low.

  • More than 1,500 died in drowning accidents between May 1-August 26, 2011
  • 85% of victims were male; more than 400 were age 12 or younger
  • is the second leading cause of death among children ages 1 to 14
  • 4,400 children 5 years old and younger received emergency room treatments.
  • 32% of respondents believe children wearing floatation devices is safer than having thme at arm's length (this is false).
  • 10% of all drownings are not reported.

How do we lower these numbers and prevent our Ohana from experiencing drownings or near-drownings?

  • Greater emphasis on participating in swimmng lessons for all non-swimmers through advanced swimmers (non-swim team) regardless of age.
  • Participation in USA Swimming's Make a Splash program (we are a partner program currently).
  • Working with CPSC's Pool Safety Program.
  • All non-swimmers should wear life jackets in ALL bodies of water, not just open water.

Certificates for the Fall Session are coming! With the holidays, family obligations, and illness, we were unable to process them previously. Rest assured, they are on the way.

Any challenges with registering, just give us a holler and we will walk you through the process.

Miss Kelly to speak at the National Convention!

In March, Kelly will be traveling to Boston to speak at the AAHPERD National Convention. She will be presenting an intnesive 2-hour workshop on developing new, exciting, and fun, yet appropriate activities for learn-to-swim, aquatics, and school classes and programs. The intent is to bring forward an entirely new approach with innovative ideas, equipment, and strategies.

If you would like to order your own pair (or your child's own pair) of the Skwim Fins, we are placing an order and would be able to include your order as well. Each pair is $21.30 (includes shipping & fees) and payment will be through PayPal to us. Please place your order as soon as possible.

Have a private pool or a connection with a hotel or condo pool and want to offer swimmng lessons to our VIA Ohana? Let's talk!
