Aloha Kakahiaka,                                                                                                            7/15/2010

Summer is sadly coming to a close in just a couple of weeks with children going back to school in the beginning of August.  A mixed blessing, we’re sure.  Just because summer is coming to a close does not mean swimming must end!  We offer swimming lessons year round.  We are looking for a private pool (at someone’s residence, condo, or hotel) to teach lessons to a group coming from the UK for two weeks in September, so if you have a pool or know of someone willing to rent us their pool, please let us know sooner than later; we would greatly appreciate it!=)

We have asked the County to extend the summer session for the month of August and are currently waiting the approval for these classes.  Once we receive the approval, we will open registration and enrollment in the Summer Extension classes for the Valley Isle Aquatics swimming lessons.  If you are currently attending one of the Summer classes, you will not need to complete the registration form in its entirety; we will need the participant’s name, the parent/guardian’s name (where applicable), email address, and class (level, location, day, time).  All others will need to complete the full registration form.

We have made some changes to the website so if you find you are having any challenges, please do not hesitate to let us know.  The links seem to work correctly in IE however there have been a few challenges with other browsers.  We have added Google Calendars for all sessions and office hours on one page, for your convenience.  The actual calendar is no longer listed on each location’s page.  Please take note that the Payment Form is a tad different; you must find the session in which you are enrolling and use that section to make your payment.  If you do not match the enrollment form and the payment option, you will end up paying for a session which is not the one you are enrolling.

The next session will be available on our website for you to review and register your child once we receive the approval from the County.  We are requesting for a session to begin in September and end approximately eight (8) weeks later.  Please do remember to register early so we can ensure your class will not be cancelled due to lack of enrollment.  If you have any questions about the registration process, please contact us, we'd be happy to answer or clarify any questions you may have for us.

Please remember that the County of Maui is closing pools every week thus our schedule has been affected.  We are fairly confident we will continue to offer our regular Saturday classes Upcountry and Sunday classes in Kihei.  Our classes on Wednesdays in Kihei will no longer be available and are hoping that the County will approve the change to Fridays rather than cancelling weekday classes totally.  Weekday classes UpCountry will hopefully be offered on Thursdays, and Central Weekday classes offered on Wednesdays.  We have requested to open new classes on Saturdays in Central.

We will be offering the Parent-Infant class and Parent-Toddler classes at each location, pending enrollment.

If you are unable to find a class which fits into your schedule, we do have Individual Lessons available. These classes will be 30 minutes and pending the age of the student, may be back-to-back, totaling 60 minutes.  Please submit your request form on-line, but do NOT make any payments until you receive confirmation from the instructor.  Please be sure to read all the information on this page to ensure you are comfortable with this program, prior to registering.  We are also open to teaching lessons in your pool, just give us a call to see what we can set up.

We would love to add new additions to our Adult Classes so please give us a holler if you are interested.  We are considering creating a seniors class for movement, stretching, and agility, if that sound intriguing to you, let us know.

Each instructor sends the children in their classes a Participation Certificate (electronically); anywhere from the last week of the session to within two weeks after the session ends.  If you do not receive your child's, please contact your child’s instructor directly.  *It is in MS WORD, so you need to have that program on your computer to open it.  If you do not have this program, you may download a free program called OpenOffice, which is the same program as the MS Office program.  If you have any challenges, please do not hesitate to contact us for assistance.

If you love working with people of all ages, are flexible, reliable, dedicated, and enjoy the water, then we may have just the thing for you…we are looking for a few excellent instructors to join our Ohana.  All instructors will need to either be current WSI certified or earn their certification prior to teaching classes solo.  For those who are interested in teaching with us, teaching with the County of Maui, or teaching at a hotel we will be offering the FIT and WSI courses; check our website for details.  We have many different options available, so if this sparks your interest, do give us a call.

Other class offerings include:

·       The Lifeguard Training series, held in Kihei.  We only offer this series once per quarter.  With this certification, you can apply for a position with the County of Maui as well as various private pools.

·       Water Safety Instructor + the Fundamental of Instructor Training course will be offered as a blended-learning, virtual, individual class; please see website for details.

We truly appreciate your patronage and look forward to continuing to serve you and your family.  Mahalo for choosing us!=)

*If you would prefer to not receive emails from us, please let us know so we can remove you from our address list.
