Aloha Kakahiaka,                                                                      2/22/2010

As you begin to plan your spring and summer activities, do consider enrolling your child in swimming lessons with Valley Isle Aquatics.

First and foremost, if after reviewing our class schedule, you cannot find the correct level for your child, please contact us; we try to make accommodations to meet the needs of the community.  All upcoming sessions are currently available on our website for you to review and register your child.  Please do remember to register early so we can ensure your class will not be cancelled due to lack of enrollment.  If you have any questions about the registration process, please contact us, we'd be happy to answer or clarify any questions you may have for us.  *Please be sure to verify with your child's instructor what level to register for the upcoming sessions.

We will be participating in the Keiki Fest on April 10, 2010.  This is a great event for families.  Entrance is at no charge, making it affordable to all.  There will be a lot of free booths and free entertainment, along with items to purchase.  It should be a lot of fun~we hope to see you there!=)

Due to the Keiki Fest, we have adjusted our start dates: we will be offering a "pre-session" for each session prior to the Keiki Fest, with the official start date beginning after the Keiki Fest.  When registering, you may choose to do the pre-session and the session, or just the session.  If you have any questions about this, please do contact us.

We have a limited amount of spaces available in Kihei for Spring Break; please do register right away if you plan on attending.

We will continue to offer the Wednesday classes, Spring Flowers Wonderful Wednesdays, beginning either 3/31 (pre-session) or 4/14.

We are offering the Spring Blast-Off session UpCountry on Saturdays. The pre-session will begin on 3/27 and the session on 4/17.  Please note the class dates: no classes on 4/10 (Keiki Fest) and 5/8 (Seabury Hall Craft Fair).

We have April Showers-May Flowers on Sundays.  Pre-session will start on 3/21 and the session will begin on 4/18.  The class schedule has been adjusted to accommodate the needs of the community members who sent us their requests.  We will again be offering the Parent-Infant class and Parent-Toddler class.  **Please make note that the first class is pending pool closure.  Please take note of the class dates: no classes on 5/9 (Mother's Day).

We are excited to move forward with classes in Central at Sakamoto Pool.  Look for the Spring into Thursdays session, pre-session beginning 4/1 and the session on 4/15.

If you are unable to find a class which fits into your schedule, we do have Individual Lessons available. These classes will be 30 minutes and pending the age of the student, may be back-to-back, totaling 60 minutes.  Please submit your request form on-line, but do NOT make any payments until you receive confirmation from the instructor.  Please be sure to read all the information on this page to ensure you are comfortable with this program, prior to registering.

Our Adult Classes are doing very well and we are always happy to work with new participants, so please give us a holler if you are interested.

Each instructor sends the children in their classes a Participation Certificate (electronically); anywhere from the last week of the session to within two weeks after the session ends.  If you do not receive your child's, please contact your child’s instructor directly.  *It is in WORD, so you need to have that program on your computer to open it.  If you do not have this program, you may download a free program called OpenOffice, which is the same program as the MS Office program.  If you have any challenges, please do not hesitate to contact us for assistance.

We are still partnering with Maui Community College, VITECH to offer the American Red Cross course, Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT).  This class is required by the ARC for anyone interested in teaching any ARC course (i.e. teaching a CPR class).  A description of the course can be found both on our website (under WSI) as well as on the MCC website.  Dates TBA.  Registration is through MCC: http://www.ocet.org/catalog.php?courseID=2667

If you love working with people of all ages, are flexible, reliable, dedicated, and enjoy the water, then we may have just the thing for you…we are looking for a few excellent instructors to join our Ohana.  All instructors will need to either be current WSI certified or earn their certification prior to teaching classes solo.  For those who are interested in teaching with us, teaching with the County of Maui, or teaching at a hotel we will be offering the FIT and WSI courses; check our website for details.  We have many different options available, so if this sparks your interest, do give us a call.

Other class offerings include:

·       The Lifeguard Training series, which will be held in Kihei, beginning 4/23 and ending on 4/29.  We only offer this series once per quarter.  Looking for something for your teenager to do this summer?  This might be just the thing.  With this certification, you can apply for a position with the County of Maui as well as various private pools.

·       Water Safety Instructor + the Fundamental of Instructor Training course will be offered either the last week of April or the first week of May, pending facilities permits.  This will be listed on our website as soon as we receive confirmation from the County.

The County of Maui and Karen Deguilmo are requiring us to take extended breaks between each and every session regardless of time of year, weather, popularity, etc.  The next extended break is during Spring Break and the following is for the first half of summer, which we feel is a time when most of you would like your children in lessons.   If you would like to voice your concerns about this, please contact her supervisor immediately at:

Floyd Miyazono, Chief of Recreation

Floyd.Miyazono@co.maui.hi.us

(808) 270-7383

In addition, Karen is requiring us to have all participants complete the County of Maui evaluation form, which is copied below, for your convenience.  You may snail mail it, email it, or fax it to her supervisor, or you may send it to us and we will deliver it to the County for you.

We truly appreciate your patronage and look forward to continuing to serve you and your family.  Mahalo for choosing us!=)
